As everybody knows we have a few more majors as nursing, computer science, physics, etc.,so we need some more new books specially in physics area.We don't have current editions in college and university physics which are courses that UST offers,so instead those we have quantum mechanichs ,laser physics, etc. which UST does not offer;anyway, those books are ok as enrichment of our library;but we need new editions books of physics according to our needs.Beside,Physics school is expanding too. Now,they are going to offer Senior Semminary and Modern physics.Furthermore, Engineering Program is very strong now which require as prerequesite all physics cuorses. Thank you for you attention.

Answer

Thanks very much for your comments. I agree that the library must do everything it can to support STEM majors. We are currently working to expand our holdings in these areas and are in communication with these departments to meet their needs efficiently.

I should clarify that if we don't have the latest "editions" of textbooks used in UST courses, that is not through simple neglect. We only rarely purchase textbooks, as a matter of policy. These books are so expensive and go out of date so quickly that buying them year after year would not be a good use of our limited resources. Our main focus is to support research in all these fields, which typically goes beyond books used in the classroom.

I encourage you to talk to your professors about placing materials on reserve in the library for student use, or about resources in your field you are not able to find here. We are quite responsive to faculty members' expressed needs. You can also suggest specific titles for purchase on this page: http://campusguides.stthom.edu/requestform

I would also suggest looking in our online book resources, such as Ebrary, since these books are often more up to date than our print holdings in the STEM subjects.
