Q

How do I link to articles and other digital materials from off campus?

I copied an article's "persistent link," but when I go home and click the link, I can't access the article. How do I use these links? How do I create a link that UST students can use to access materials from home?

Answer

Most of our databases provide a "persistent link" or "permanent link" to article records and other items. But often, the link supplied by the database does not work when you are off the campus network.

To use persistent links when you are off campus, add the following code to the front of the link supplied by the database:
http://ezproxy.stthom.edu:2048/login?url=

For example, if the item's persistent link is http://www.jstor.org/stable/20683124, you could access the item from home with this link:
http://ezproxy.stthom.edu:2048/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/20683124

Instructors can use this method to post direct links to articles from Blackboard, or through emails.
